The Big Show set |
A call for a camera operator for the CBS Tailgate show for the Arkansas/ Alabama game meant another road trip. So we loaded up the bus and headed to Fayetteville, Arkansas that is. The drive was very different, not the dogs, they did a repeat of the last one. Cairo now takes over the copilot seat as soon as the dogs get in and that's that. Medora seems to be fine with this arrangement, but I'll bet she thinks, " one time he'll get thirsty, need a drink and then the seat will be mine." The drive was sooo boring I-45 is awful, the only thing you see is interstate highway. The back roads are much more fun. We did stop in Denison, Texas and I grabbed a burger from the Jack In the Box where I worked from high school untill college. I hadn't been back to Denison in years. The rest of the drive was okay, cut a cross Oklahoma to I-40, that interstate really needs some work. I had checked on RV parks in Fayetteville but found out they were all full. Razorback football is a BIG thing. To show you how nice the people are in that area, one RV park owner told me to call the university and ask for Road Hog Park people. I called the number they gave me and told the guy I was working the game, he said " Come on, the park is next to the campus about a mile from the stadium. " I showed up and was greeted at the gate and shown a spot right up front, the guide asked "Is this okay with you?" " Sure this is better than planned" I said with a smile. The guide wished me well and he motored off in his Razorback golf cart. The park was packed beyond belief, they really take their football serious. I set up shop and enjoyed talking with some of the fans then goodnight because my call time was 6am. The next morning it was so foggy I couldn't see half a block. The dogs sniffed and sniffed and finally did their business. The trip to the stadium was entertaining, I just walked until the stadium popped out of nowhere, the fog was so bad I could not see the top of the stadium standing next to it. The crew was from all over and we set up in the dark fog, finally the sun burned it off and the day was perfect. The show went off we were done,I watched the game for a few minutes and decided to get on the road and head to Texas. We made it to Durant, Oklahoma around dark. Durant is about halfway to Houston so a convenient stopping point. Another reason to stop there is the Choctaw Nation casino, that means free RV parking, after a quick tour of the casino and walking the dogs it was bedtime. Took off the next day back to Houston made it back and now awaiting the next trip.
