If they only knew |
When I finally got to I-57 in Illinois I thought now this trip will be a cakewalk, interstate highways almost all the way back. Ha! I swear almost every inch of freeway was under contruction. With only a few hours behind the wheel of this van on steroids, driving through construction zones with heavy traffic, uneven pavement and very tight lanes can be a puckering experience. I kept thinking to myself, if these drivers only knew how long I 'd been driving this thing, they would not get within a mile of me. Again the Gods were with me, somehow got past the construction, manuvered around slow cars and even stayed in my lane as semi's flew by me. If you are used to being passed by a truck and just seeing their wheels go by, try glancing over and being eye level with the driver it's a very strange feeling the first few times. The interstate driving was not much easier than the two-lane roads. A stop for lunch then back to the road. Just before sundown I made it to the Missouri border. The intention was to drive to Memphis and spend the night at a truck stop. That plan came to a halt when I started getting too tired to drive. Oh,Oh didn't count on this where will I stop? Within a few miles of getting tired a wonderful sign appeared, Lady Luck Casino 5 miles ahead RV's welcome. The bus Gods appear again. If you are ever in the area of Carruthersville, Missouri spend a night, the town looks very nice and the casino is on the Mississippi river.
